Tube Snake Story
Everyone, I know, really loves to ride on new tires! And NOBODY, whether I know you or not, likes to change a tire! I hate it!! Add a bit of arthritis over the years, it has made the task more difficult.
With my son, Lester, racing every weekend, that meant new tires every weekend. We were all in the garage one Saturday; messing around while avoiding the new tire ordeal for Sunday’s race when I tried screwing in a 5mm bolt into a tube stem; it didn’t quite fit. I rethreaded the bolt to a finer thread, welded on a chain and handed it to the boys. They broke it. After a little more messing around, I finally got the weld right! They used it and all was forgotten.
Until it was time to change a tire again! Then it was, “Dad, where is that tube tool?”
‘Hmmm…’ I wonder what if I could make one that was harder to break with a swivel, so the chain won’t bind’?
‘Hmmm…maybe a patent would be cool?!’
‘Hmmm…maybe a patent hanging on the wall would be cool?!’After many hours of thought, numerous drawings, trying cables, ball chains and fishing swivels; I came up with this design. It took three years for the patent on the wall. Have to confess, my family thinks the patent is cool. I really only did it for the challenge of the patent and that blank space on the wall…but after everyone kept asking for one.
HERE THEY ARE!!I am happy to introduce the “TUBE SNAKE”! Hope it makes your tire changing easier.

Mark VarnumP.S. I would like to warn everyone to watch out for imitations. They are two companies out there making a similar tool with a cable the cable will kink, then fray then break. Believe me I tried using cable in my design. I have made the Tube Snake to last and it is repairable if you break it.
This is one of the best small items to put in your tool kit if you have tube tires.
